Magnetic coupled pumps are a type of centrifugal pump that uses a magnetic coupling to transmit torque from the motor to the impeller, instead of a direct mechanical connection. The magnetic coupling consists of two magnets, one attached to the motor shaft and the other attached to the impeller shaft, with a small air gap between them. When the motor magnet spins, it creates a magnetic field that passes through the air gap and causes the impeller magnet to spin as well.
The main advantage of magnetic coupled pumps is that they are hermetically sealed, which means there is no physical connection between the motor and the fluid being pumped. This eliminates the risk of fluid leaks and contamination, making them ideal for handling hazardous or corrosive liquids. Magnetic coupled pumps also have no seals, which means they require less maintenance and are less likely to suffer from wear and tear.
However, magnetic coupled pumps have some limitations. They are typically less efficient than traditional centrifugal pumps, and may not be able to handle as high a flow rate or head pressure. They also tend to be more expensive, due to the added complexity of the magnetic coupling.
SS magnetic drive pumps are seal-less centrifugal pumps made in stainless steel (commonly SS304 or SS316) that use magnetic coupling instead of a mechanical shaft seal. They are widely used for handling corrosive, toxic, hazardous, solvent-based, and high-purity liquids because they provide near-zero leakage operation.
SS (Stainless Steel) Magnetic Drive Pumps are mainly used where corrosion resistance, leak-free operation, and reliable handling of chemicals or process liquids are required.
Chemical Processing Industries – Transfer of acids, solvents, chemicals, and aggressive liquids.
Pharmaceutical Industry – Handling process fluids where contamination-free and leak-free pumping is important.
Food & Beverage Industry – Transfer of compatible liquids and process fluids requiring hygienic equipment.
Dye & Pigment Industries – Circulation and transfer of dyes, pigments, and chemical solutions.
Electroplating Industries – Pumping plating chemicals and corrosive solutions.
Textile Industries – Chemical dosing, circulation, and transfer applications.
Water & Wastewater Treatment – Handling chemicals used for treatment and dosing.
Oil & Gas / Petrochemical – Transfer of compatible solvents, chemicals, and process fluids.
Paint & Coating Industries – Transfer and circulation of solvents, resins, and coating chemicals.
Laboratory & Process Plants – Small-scale chemical transfer and circulation where zero leakage is preferred.
1) 100% leak-proof / seal-less design
2) SS316 or SS304 wetted parts
3) Low maintenance (no mechanical seal)
4) Suitable for corrosive and hazardous chemicals
5) Quiet operation with reduced downtime
6) Available with flameproof motors for hazardous areas
7) Temperature handling typically up to 100–180°C depending on the model
There are many manufacturers and suppliers of magnetic coupled pumps. Some of the well-known companies in this field include:
Numatic Pumps designs and assembles SS304/SS316 magnetic drive pumps at our facility in Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, and has supplied chemical, pharma and plating plants since 2014. We ship across India, with regular dispatches to Gujarat (Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ankleshwar, Vapi), Maharashtra and the north, and we export on request. Every pump is tested before dispatch, and flameproof motors are available for hazardous areas.
When choosing a manufacturer of magnetic coupled pumps, there are several factors to consider:
Quality: The quality of the pumps is a critical factor to consider. Look for manufacturers that have a reputation for producing reliable, high-quality pumps that meet your specific requirements.
Experience: Choose a manufacturer that has a proven track record of producing magnetic coupled pumps for your industry. Experienced manufacturers are more likely to understand your needs and offer solutions that are tailored to your application.
Cost: Price is an important consideration, but it should not be the only factor. Look for a manufacturer that offers competitive pricing without sacrificing quality or reliability.
Technical support: Choose a manufacturer that offers technical support and assistance throughout the entire process, from the initial design to installation and maintenance.
Customization: If your application requires a custom solution, look for a manufacturer that can provide customized magnetic coupled pumps to meet your specific needs.
Availability and lead time: Choose a manufacturer that has a reliable supply chain and can deliver pumps within a reasonable lead time.
Certification and compliance: Ensure that the manufacturer complies with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental regulations and has the necessary certifications and accreditations.
SS Magnetic Drive Pumps are used for transferring and circulating liquids where corrosion resistance, chemical transfer, acid circulation, solvent handling, electroplating, pharmaceutical processing, water treatment and industrial fluid circulation, reliable fluid handling and reduced leakage risk are important. SS Magnetic Drive Pumps are mainly used where stainless-steel construction and sealless magnetic-drive technology are required.
